First Judicial District, Alaska 1929 Federal Census http://ftp.us-census.org/pub/usgenweb/census/ak/first/1930/ ====================================================================================== TRANSCRIBER'S NOTE FOR ED:1-30 ====================================================================================== Notes to Researchers Using the 1930 Skagway Census: An effort has been made to crosscheck spellings of names against the business directories of the time. Like all of the 1930 census in Alaska, the enumeration was begun on October 1, 1929. The dwelling number has no meaning in this enumeration; it is duplicated by the family number. Women's ages should not be considered reliable. A statistical analysis of twelve women who were in Skagway from 1900 through 1930 showed they universally and consistently understated their ages an average of one to three years for each federal census. By October 1929, they appeared to have "aged" only 26 years. Men's ages, on the other hand, were extremely accurate. The census taker, Joseph J. F. Ward, was the U. S. Commissioner stationed in Skagway. ====================================================================================== This Census was transcribed by Catherine H Spude and proofread by Penny Malmquist for the USGenWeb Census Project®, http://www.us-census.org/ ======================================================================================
