These districts were Monticello and Aucilla. Both of these districts were enumerated by William H. Andrews who was a resident of Aucilla District, Jefferson County, Florida. There was a total of 520 households and 2781 individual records enumerated in Jefferson County Florida. On the pages enumerated in the months of January and February the enumerator has lined out the pre-printed number 0 in the date 1850 and in most cases has written a small number 1 beside it. The reference field has been transcribed with the actual date as listed by the enumerator. The enumerator of this census has notated at the top of the last page the word "Classified". It is believed this was due to the Seminole Indian War and the U.S. Military forts located in the Jefferson County area. Both Monticello and Aucilla Districts have families with twin children. The enumerator uses a right bracket enclosing the names of both persons to indicate that they are twins. Being unable to include this symbol in the transcription, I have placed the following comment in the remarks section of the record for each person: "The enumerator indicates this person is a twin". There are other records of persons within the some households with the same age but not indicated as twins by the enumerator. I have placed in the remarks section of each record the following statement: "This household lists two persons with the same age". There is a number of persons listed in this census as an agent of the property owner. He did this by writing after the person's name "agt. of and the initials of the property owner". Whenever possible this has been notated in the remarks section for that individual. The enumeration of Monticello District begins on page 1a and ends on page 3a. When numbering the families and dwellings of Monticello District the enumerator used numbers 1 through 50 making a total of 50 households and 190 individual records. On page 1b line 19, dwelling 14 is listed by the enumerator as a hotel and jail. Lines 29 through 33 contain the names of the persons incarcerated and lists the crimes for which they were convicted. On page 3a of this census the enumerator has written the following statement: State of Florida County of Florida I, William H. Andrews assistant Marshal for taking the Seventh Census of the United States in the tenth Division of said State do hereby Certify and make Oath that the foregoing returns of Schedule No. 1 were made according to Any Oath and instructions as near as the Same could possibly be done, to the best of my Knowledge and belief. William H. Andrews Assistant Marshal for taking 7th Census 10th Division Sworn to and Subscribed before me this 1st day of March 1851. C. G. Fife Clerk of the 1st Circuit Court for Jefferson County Florida Page 3b was not used by the enumerator and has been omitted from this transcription. The enumeration of the Aucilla District begins on page 4a and ends on page 34b. When numbering the families and dwellings of Aucilla District the enumerator used numbers 1 through 470 making a total of 470 households and 2591 individual records. In some cases the enumerator has indicated that the person listed is an agent of a particular farm or business owner. The occupation of the person listed is usually farmer or overseer. Page 13a line 37 dwelling and family number 154 lists the "Estate of T. P. Randolph". There are no listings for age; sex; occupation or place of birth. On page 14a line 8 has no information listed and has been omitted from this transcription. On page 34b the enumerator has written the following statement: State of Florida County of Jefferson I, William H. Andrews assistant Marshal for taking the Seventh Census of the United States in the tenth Division of Said State, do hereby Certify and Make Oath that the foregoing Returns of Schedule No. 1 were made according to my Oath and instructions as near as the Same Could possibly be done, to the best of my knowledge and beliefs. William H. Andrews Assistant Marshal for taking 7th Census 10th Division Sworn to and Subscribed before me this 8th day of March 1851. C. G. Fife Clerk of the Circuit Court for Jefferson County Florida In addition page 34b lists the following totals: 42 pages 2592 records After the census was taken the pages were bound into books with two pages facing each other. A page number was then assigned and stamped into the upper right corner and the facing page received no number. These pages are now known as A and B pages (ex. 1a and 1b). When the census documents were transferred onto microfilm for the government archives the photographers wrote numbers on each page. This census contains numbers 1 through 62. These numbers are not always in order and many are not legible. This transcription has both numbers listed whenever possible to aid in genealogy research. Col. PJ Turner
