ENUMERATOR REMARKS: The typhus and scarlet fevers have prevailed to some extent in Dallas and Plk townships, in *** usually ***, cause unknown. Emanuel Smith while intoxicated laid down on t he RR track near the depot and was run over by a train of freight cars and cut in pieces. The township of Warren *** the northern part of Polk and southern part of Jefferson are level and ***, and have no streams and but few springs. The balance of district no. two is rolling and is well watered, has plenty of streams and springs. ENUMERATOR REMARKS: The land in district no. two is generally of the first quality, very fertile and produces excellent crops with ordinary cultivation. The soil is a deep rich loam, and sand and clay mixed, and with proper drainage can all be tilled. The timber cannot be excelled, there being an abundance of Black Walnut, Poplar, Ash. Oak, Sugar Maple, Birch, White Walnut, etc. The only stone is a *** lime stone valuable for building purposes and for ***. ENUMERATOR REMARKS: The land is generally of the first quality, a portion of which is rich river bottom, and the balance sufficiently high & rolling, and pretty well watered, excepting a portion of Union, Lancaster & Salamony townships, which is rather flat & deficient in durable water. The soild is a rich clay & sandy loam, and with ordinary cultun usually produces abundantly. Fort Wayne has mainly been supplied with stone and lime stone from these quarries for many years.
