Boone, KY 1840 Federal Census TRANSCRIBER'S NOTES: In transcribing this 1840 Census of Boone County Kentucky the enumerator used abbreviations for some of the common names by using the first 3 or 4 letters of the name and then the last letter written above the line. (i.e. Richard would be written Rich superscript d). When transcribing these names they were written in the following manner-- Rich’d. A major problem with this census is the way it was bound and then microfilmed. There are two columns -- Free Colored Persons Female 100 and over and Male slaves under 10—that did not microfilm well if at all. and even using copies of the microfilm that I copied the column for Male Slave under 10 was very hard to read. I tried to use the total column and the total listed at the bottom of the page to make sure that every one got counted. ========================================================================= This Census was transcribed by Margaret Whitehead and proofread by Laurie Wilcox for the USGenWeb Census Project http://www.us-census.org/ =========================================================================
