Wayne, MO 1860 Federal Census Transcriber Notes The 1860 census was transcribed verbatim as nearly as possible, including spelling variations and misspellings. If the correct surname was known, it was added in parenthesis. Researchers should always check the original film to verify the information if there is a question as to interpretation. There were two men named as enumerators. John Kemper enumerated Logan Township. All the remaining townships were done by William M. Pettit, as there were times when Mr.Pettit could spell correctly some names, like Elizabeth and Margaret, there were times when he couldn't - he spelled them as Elisabeth & Margret; perhaps he had help. He and another man, named Lee M. Pettit, a brother maybe, lived together, both listed as physicians and farmers. This transcription for the USGENWEB Census Project was proofread by Marilyn Hare, who is one of the most accurate proofreaders it has been my pleasure to work with. Her assistance was invaluable and greatly appreciated. Although every effort has been made to enter the census data as accurately as possible, any errors in transcription and interpretation are solely the responsibility of this transcriber. Darlene Cole
