Amite county, MS 1820 census Transcriber's notes by Tina Hall proofread by Virginia Ewing ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The enumerator for this census was A. H. Buckholts. John seems to be the most popular given name in this census record. I have also noticed that Mr. Buckholts sometimes dotted his I's with a small circle as I did in school! How interesting! Senior was always abbreviated as "Senr.", while Junior was always "Jr.". This can make a big difference when one person may use only the two letters on each - making it difficult to tell the difference between the two. This enumerator made it simple to know the difference. About halfway through the census, the enumerator started indenting the names of the female heads of household. It helped me to determine if I was looking at a male or female name. This sometimes helps with the transcription. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
