Lauderdale, MS 1840 Federal Census Transcriber's notes: 1. On the 2nd page, this enumerator only completes the columns for Male Slaves, Female Slaves, and Total. 2. Page 64b is a page of tabulations which lists 3 Revolutionary War Pensioners. However, there is only 1 name actually listed in the census image: James Whitehead age 85 on pg. 47b. It appears that he says that Sheet 7 [pg. 45b] has a Revolutionary War Pensioner age 60/70 sheet 8 [pg. 46b] has a Revolutionary War Pensioner age 80/90 sheet 12 [pg. 50b] has a Revolutionary War Pensioner age 82 James Whitehead does not appear to be in the total, and the ones in the total, do not appear to be on the individual page. 3. PARKS do solemnly swear ( or affirm ) that the number of persons set forth in the return, made by me agreeable to the provision of the act entittled, An Act to provide for the taking the State census for the enumeration of the inhabitants of the United States, has been ascertained by an actual inquiry at the premises for these* even dwelling house and a personal inquiry of the head of every family in exact conformity with the provision of the said act & that I have in every respect fulfilled the duties required by one me the said Act to the best of my abilities and that the return aforesaid is correct and true according to the best of my knowledge and belief.
