Transcriber's notes for the Luzerne, PA 1790 census: 1790 Census Luzerne County, Pennsylvania THERE ARE 2 PAGES NUMBERED 154. The one after 153 I have numbered 154A, the next one 154B-which is the last page of the county. Please note, the census was supposed to reflect the population on 2 Aug 1790, but it was not completed until 20 April 1791. In 1790, Luzerne County included the current counties of Luzerne, Lackawanna, Wyoming, Bradford and Susquehanna. Starting with page 144, there are 2 columns of entries per page. I did not change the page numbers to reflect this. I did put a break between columns, a note in the remarks field at the beginning of column two, and I restarted the line numbers at 1 for the second column. The census was alphabetized by the enumerator. I used the page numbers that are written in large letters in the upper center of the page. The county starts at page 143 and ends at 154B. There are no missing pages. Except for a few slave columns, the microfilming is quite good and the handwriting clear, although the spelling is interesting, especially with the non-English names. According to the census, there are: 1,236 free white males 16 and older 1,331 free white males under 16 2,313 free white females 13 other free persons 11 slaves
