Prince William County, Virginia - 1860 ftp://ftp.us-census.org/pub/usgenweb/census/va/princewilliam/1860/ TRANSCRIBER'S NOTES: The census enumerator, Wm. A. Bryant, had excellent handwriting. Most letters were easy to read. Sometimes he did not dot his "i" and I had to decide if it was an "e" or an "i". Usually his "e" had a slight loop in it. -------- When the handwritten page number was on the lefthand side of the census page, it was difficult to read. If I could not read the handwritten number, I did not add it to the census page. -------- On page 465, the enumerator made an error in recording the Family and Dwelling numbers. He went from Dwelling # 331 to # 232 and from Family # 320 to # 221. In reality there should be 100 more Dwelling and Family numbers for the total of the county. -------- ===================================================================== The following pages have "Uninhabited" written in: ===================================================================== p. 425, Line 20, Dwelling # 46 p. 433, Line 29, Dwelling # 108 p. 434, Line 38, Dwelling # 116 p. 440, Line 5, Dwelling # 155 p. 441, Line 27, Dwelling # 167 p. 443, Line 31, Dwelling # 184 p. 444, Lines 15 & 16, Dwellings # 190 & # 191 p. 445, Line 38, Dwelling # 198 p. 451, Lines 8 & 9, Dwellings # 239 & # 240 p. 458, Line 12, Dwelling 288 p. 460, Line 7, Dwelling # 298 p. 460, Line 29, Dwelling # 303 p. 463, Lines 30 & 31, Dwellings # 321 & 322 p. 469, Line 30, Dwelling # 268 p. 470, Lines 36 & 37, Dwellings # 279 & 280 p. 471, Line 16, Dwelling # 284 p. 472, Line 26, Dwelling # 294 p. 473, Line 31, Dwelling # 304 p. 473, Line 36, Dwelling # 306 p. 478, Line 30, Dwelling # 346 p. 480, Lines 19 & 20, Dwellings # 359 & # 360 p. 483, Line 27, Dwelling # 387 p. 487, Line 4, Dwelling # 416 p. 496, Line 30, Dwelling # 500 p. 498, Line 15, Dwelling # 516 ===================================================================== The line on the census page was left blank on the following pages: ===================================================================== p. 460, Line 40, Dwelling # 305 p. 476, Line 1, Dwelling # 320 p. 487, Line 21, Dwelling # 421 ===================================================================== The following pages have "Uninhabited" written in: ===================================================================== p. 510, Lines 8 & 9, Dwellings # 607 & # 608 p. 523, Line 6, Dwelling # 707 p. 543, Line 8, Dwelling # 855 p. 543, Line 34, Dwelling # 861 p. 544, Line 32, Dwelling # 870 p. 553, Line 33, Dwelling # 934 p. 557, Line 23, Dwelling # 962 p. 570, Line 25, Dwelling # 1057 p. 571, Line 33, Dwelling # 1066 p. 574, Line 31, Dwelling # 1091 ===================================================================== The line on the census page was left blank on the following pages: ===================================================================== p. 504, Line 27, Dwelling # 559 p. 529, Line 12 p. 529, Lines 14 to 16 On Line 13 is written: Conclusion of Dumfries and in a darker handwriting is Dumfries Concluded. p. 537, Line 35, Dwelling #818 p. 545, Lines 37 to 40 p. 549, Line 28, Dwelling # 905 p. 569, Line 35, Dwelling # 1051 p. 572, Line 40, Dwelling # 1077 p. 573, Line 40, Dwelling # 1083 p. 574, Lines 1 & 2, Dwellings # 1084 & # 1085 p. 574, Line 11, Dwelling # 1087 page 502, Line 23 to Line 36 are bracketed together as Occupants of the Poor House.
